The Identification Unit, comprised of two detectives, is responsible for processing crime scenes, including but not limited to the recovery of physical evidence and photography. Several uniformed patrol officers supplement this function by serving as Crime Scene Technicians in the absence of the Identification Unit detectives.

The Identification Unit also secures physical evidence and ensures its delivery to the crime lab or court, and members testify in criminal proceedings as required. Members of this unit receive extensive post-academy training in the areas of forensic evidence retrieval, photography, latent prints and accident reconstruction.

Special Projects

The commander of the Administrative & Support Services Division also oversees training, special projects, grants, accreditation and crime analysis.
