Newburgh City Court

The Newburgh City Court, at 57 Broadway, is one of several city courts in the New York State court system's 9th Judicial District (covering Orange, Rockland, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties). The Family, County and NYS Supreme courts sit in the Newbugh city courthouse at times determined by the judicial calendar. For more information, consult the court's website:

New Courthouse

The City plans to move the courthouse to a restored historic structure originally built as the Broadway School, on the crossroads of the city at Robinson Avenue and Broadway. The lower level will serve both as a holding facility for prisoners awaiting their appearances before a judge as well as the City police department’s lock-up, a move that will allow for increased operational efficiencies, safety, and security.

After reviewing bids, the City awarded contracts in October 2007 to T.M. Brennan Contractors and Canale Electric Company.

Burial Ground

During construction of the new courthouse, excavations uncovered remains from a 19th cemetery [details].
