Our Mission
The Department of Human Services (formerly Children, Youth and Family Services) is dedicated to meeting the needs of families in our community through partnership, innovation and resource development. Our purpose is to:
- Actively mobilize resources.
- Encourage collaboration.
- Develop, plan and coordinate strategies designed to improve the conditions for children, youth, families and seniors in the City of Newburgh.
For more information, see our Work Plan for Fiscal 2007 (doc).
Workshops and Seminars
We are committed to ensuring that providers have the tools to deliver effective services to our community. In addition to monthly seminars for afterschool professionals, we offer training for non-profit agencies in partnership with Community Development.
Information Clearinghouse
Our department partners with the Orange County Youth Bureau to produce "Summer in the City," a local resource guide to summer activities for children and youth. For more information, download the Orange County Family Services Directory (PDF, 350K) or visit the county's Youth Bureau web pages.
Community Accountability Board
The City of Newburgh, in partnership with the New York State Community Justice Forum, has expanded its Community Accountability Board (CAB) in an effort to better meet the needs of young offenders, their victims and the community.
Community Space
Located at the Washington Heights Community Center, our Youth Bureau Division makes space available to local and regional organizations for programs, meetings and special events. To apply to use the facility, call Maritza Wilson at 845-565-1213 ext. 1.
