In 1609, Henrik Hudson explored the Hudson on the Half-Moon.

The same year, Samuel de Champlain discovered the lake that bears his name.

In 1709, Queen Anne of England sent a group of refugees from the Palatinate to settle the Hudson Valley, founding what later became the village of Newburgh.

In 1807, Robert Fulton ushered in a new era of transportation when his steamboat Clermont traveled from New York City to Albany in only 32 hours!

The 1909 Celebrations of the achievements of Hudson and Fulton spread from New York to Albany, around the "pivotal point" of the Newburgh Bay.
